Clarke Earns Big 12 Newcomer of the Week

LUBBOCK, Texas – Chris Clarke has been named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week after helping Texas Tech to a pair of wins over Southern Miss and UT Rio Grande Valley last week where he averaged a double-double. Clarke, who had 11 points, 10 rebounds and four assists per game in the two wins, is the fourth Red Raider to earn Big 12 Newcomer of the Week this season following TJ Holyfield, Jahmi'us Ramsey and Terrence Shannon, Jr. who have claimed the honor.
A graduate transfer from Virginia Beach, Virginia, Clarke ranks third in the Big 12 this season by averaging 9.0 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game. He scored 14 points and had 11 rebounds in the win over Southern Miss on Monday where he also had six assists before having nine rebounds and eight points in Saturday's win over UTRGV. He now has two double-doubles to go along with contributing seven or more rebounds in 10 of 11 games and five or more assists in six games.
Clarke has played in 90 games in his collegiate career and has secured 616 rebounds, has 271 assists and has scored 805 career points.
Oklahoma's Kristian Doolittle earned Big 12 Men's Basketball Player of the Week  after he was the only Big 12 player to average 15+ points and 10+ rebounds last week. After getting into early foul trouble, he led Oklahoma in the second half comeback win over UCF with 10 points and seven rebounds. The senior forward produced a double-double on the road against Creighton with 21 points and 15 rebounds. Doolittle leads the Big 12 in scoring during the month of December with 20.8 points.
The Red Raiders return to action at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 29 against Cal State Bakersfield at the USA before opening Big 12 play against Oklahoma State on Jan. 4 and Baylor on Tuesday, Jan. 7 to complete a five-game home stand.
