Men's Tennis in Semifinal Round of Blue Gray National Tennis Classic

The Red Raiders will resume play in Alabama on Saturday
MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Texas Tech men's tennis team defeated the Rice Owls by a score of 4-2 to move on to the semifinal round of the annual Blue Gray National Tennis Classic.
The Red Raiders had an early start to their tournament run, as they began their match with Rice at 9:00 a.m. CT on Friday morning.
After the No. 8 duo of Bjorn Thomson and Parker Wynn took their battle by a count of 6-2 on court one in doubles play, courts two and three would surrender their matches to the Owls to fall behind 0-1 early.
In singles, Tech took over, as four of five players won their match to secure the 4-2 victory. Senior Tommy Mylnikov once again led the charge for the Red Raiders in the lead position, as he fought his way to a 7-6, 6-4 win, quickly followed by sophomore Ilgiz Valiev, who would finish off his opponent in straight sets. Artem Kapshuk also collected a win on court five at a 7-5, 2-6, 6-0 clip. Freshman sensation Franco Ribero rounded out the scoring for Tech, as he garnered a 6-3, 6-4 win to keep the undefeated streak to his collegiate career alive.
The Red Raiders began their semifinal match against the Arizona Wildcats, as doubles play was concluded on Friday afternoon.
The tandem of Valiev and Matheus Leite holstered the early momentum for Tech, as they powered their way to a 6-2 win on court three. The doubles point would then be bagged by Jackson Cobb and Mylnikov, who also took their match at a 6-2 mark.
