Oduduru Remains on Watch List for The Bowerman
February 28, 2019 | Track and Field
Tech sprinter holds world lead in 200m and is potential medalist in 60m.
NEW ORLEANS – Texas Tech sprinter Divine Oduduru remains on the most recent watch list for The Bowerman, released Thursday ahead of the NCAA Indoor Championships.
Â
Oduduru, who has been named on each of The Bowerman's previous two watch lists, declared himself a top contender for collegiate track and field's highest honor after an incredible showing at last week's Big 12 Championships. The Nigerian contributed a meet-high 20 points towards Tech's record-smashing 179 to help the Red Raiders claim their third-straight Big 12 track title.
Â
Oduduru began last Saturday by running a 6.52 to win the 60m. But he was not close to finished. After his career-best 60m time, he turned around and ran a 20.08 in the 200m – the fastest indoor time in the world and second-fastest in the history of collegiate track. Oduduru's mark broke just about every record it could, counting as the best time ever run at a Big 12 Championship, Texas Tech and the Sports Performance Center.
Â
Oduduru has been instrumental in Tech's successful defense of their top ranking throughout the indoor season. The sprinter and his teammates will go after the national title next weekend in Birmingham at the NCAA Indoor Championships, which run from March 8-9. Â
