Warren Brings in NCBWA Hitter of the Week
March 12, 2019 | Baseball
The senior totaled 13 RBI with three home runs for the week.
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech baseball's Cameron Warren has been named National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Hitter of the Week, the publication announced today.
Â
The national honor comes a day after earning Big 12 Player of the week for the first time in his career. It is his first national weekly accolade and the third by a Red Raider in as many years, as Hunter Hargrove picked up the award on May 1, 2017 and Josh Jung received the accolade on April 24, 2018.
Â
Warren, a senior first baseman from Midwest City, Okla., led the Big 12 this week with three home runs and 13 RBI, while ranking third in batting at .500. He hit a home run in three-straight games, starting with a clutch grand slam with two outs in the top of the ninth on Wednesday at San Diego State that put Tech on top 12-9. Warren tallied a hit in all five games, crossed home eight times on the week and added five walks.
Â
In Wednesday's seesaw affair at SDSU, Warren came up big with the Red Raiders trailing a run and down to their final out. He mashed a grand slam over the wall in left center, sending Tech to the 12-9 victory. Warren followed that with a solo homer in Friday's series opener with Wichita State before connecting on a three-run blast in the first inning of Saturday's 15-10 win.
Â
The No. 7 Red Raiders open Big 12 play this weekend with a top-10 showdown at No. 10 Texas. Friday's first pitch from UFCU Disch-Falk Field is slated for 6:30 p.m. on Longhorn Network.
