Scott, Red Raiders Finish Second at Lake Charles

LAKE CHARLES, Louisiana – Sandy Scott finished at 13-under-par and as the Lake Charles Toyota Invitational runner-up to lead No. 10 Texas Tech to a second-place finish on Tuesday at The Country Club at The Golden Nugget.
Scott shot 64-65—74 – 203 to take second behind TCU's David Ravetto who won the tournament at 19-under. The Horned Frogs won the team title at 47-under, while the Red Raiders were at 32-under after posting a 274-274-284 – 832 at the two-day, 54-hole tournament. Tech was 4-under on the final day and finished ahead of UTSA which was third at 24-under and Lamar and Louisiana-Monroe who tied for fourth at 20-under. The Red Raiders have now had to tournament runner-ups this season to go along with winning the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate team title last month.
Texas Tech sophomore Kyle Hogan shot a season-low 65 on Tuesday and finished fourth individually after posting a 70-69-65 – 204 at the tournament in Louisiana. Hogan recorded seven birdies during Tuesday's round that he played bogey-free. Adam Blomme completed the tournament tied for 24th after posting 70-72-70 – 212, while Ivan Ramirez finished with a three-round total of 218 and freshman Jansen Smith at 219. Playing as an individual, Markus Braadlie shot 7-under (71-70-68 – 209) for an 11th place finish and Thomas Allkins was a 229 after his final round. Braadlie had five birdies in his final round to shoot up nine spots on the leaderboard on Tuesday.
Scott, who took a one-shot lead into the final round, recorded five birdies on Tuesday and earned his first runner-up finish of the season. He led the tournament with 19 birdies throughout the 54-hole event, while Hogan had 18 and Braadlie 17. As a team, Tech led the 18-team field with 70 birdies which was eight more than TCU which won the tournament with 62 birdies but also with five eagles and 173 pars. Scott finished the tournament at 6-under on par 4s and was 7-under on par 5s. Scott's 13-under total was the season-low for a Red Raider and was the second runner-up finish following Blomme who was second at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate on Feb. 24 in Palm Desert, California. A junior from Scotland and the No. 24-ranked player in the nation, Scott now has three top-5 finishes this season and four top-10 showings in the six tournaments he's played in.
Ravetto won the tournament at 19-under after shooting 5-under on Tuesday and posting a three-round total of 64-66-67 – 197, while his teammate Hayden Springer tied with Scott after carding a 67-77-70 – 203. Ravetto was 11-under on par 4s during the tournament and finished with 17 birdies and 33 pars to claim the individual title.
The Red Raiders now have two regular-season tournaments remaining with the Aggie Invitational on April 6-7 in College Station and then the El Macero Classic on April 12014 in El Macero, California. The tournaments will lead into the Big 12 Conference Championships on April 26-28 in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia.
