Lady Raiders Drop First Big 12 Match at Kansas

Texas Tech falls, 5-2, to Jayhawks in Top 25 matchup
LAWRENCE, Kan. – The No. 25 Texas Tech Women's Tennis team dropped its first Big 12 match of the season as the Lady Raiders fell, 5-2, to No. 17 Kansas on Friday evening.

With the loss, Texas Tech falls to 13-5 on the season, 3-1 in Big 12 play. Kansas snapped the Lady Raiders' six-match win streak.

The Jayhawks (12-4, 3-2) opened the match clinching the doubles point with wins on courts one and two. Olivia Peet and Reagan Collins were ahead 5-4 on court three before the match was suspended.

In singles action, the Jayhawks won three straight matches to take the 4-0 lead before Denise-Antonela Stoica captures a 6-4, 1-6, 10-6 win on court four, improving to 7-2 when playing at the No. 4 position.

Freshman Kennedy Bridgforth picked up the second point for the Lady Raiders with a three-set win on court three. Bridgforth captured the 6-2 first set win before KU's Plobrung Plipuech forced a tiebreaker set with a 6-3 win. Bridgforth fought hard to earn a 14-12 win in tiebreaks to clinch the point. She improved to 3-0 in Big 12 play with the win.

Peet was the final player on the court. After dropping the first set, Peet forced a third set with a 6-3 win in set two. Kansas' Sonia Smagina came out on top, 7-6, with a 7-1 score in the tiebreaker set.

The Lady Raiders head to Manhattan, Kan., to face No. 48 Kansas State on Sunday. First serve is set for 11 a.m.
