No. 23 Red Raiders Conclude Regular Season Against No. 6 Baylor

Men's tennis to honor seniors Kapshuk and Mylnikov on Sunday
LUBBOCK, Texas - The No. 23 Texas Tech men's tennis team will close out their regular season slate by taking on No. 6 Baylor on senior day at the McLeod Tennis Center on Sunday, April 14th.

The Red Raiders are 14-10 this season, including a 6-2 mark in Lubbock.

LAST TIME OUT
The Red Raiders will look to build off of their last performance, where they took down the No. 17 ranked Oklahoma Sooners by a count of 4-3 at the McLeod Tennis Center on Sunday, April 7th.

After taking the doubles point on courts one and three, Tech earned singles points from freshman Franco Ribero and sophomore Ilgiz Valiev. With the match tied at 3-3, the Red Raiders looked to Bjorn Thomson to provide the match-clinching point. Thomson would pull through in dramatic fashion, as he rattled off two consecutive set points in the third to secure the win for Tech.

RED RAIDERS IN THE RANKINGS
After reaching their highest ranking of the season a week ago, the Red Raiders held steady in this week's Oracle/ITA rankings at No. 23.

Thomson and partner Parker Wynn maintained their top-10 status this week, as the seasoned duo were ranked at No. 7.

In singles play, Wynn continued to climb the ranks as he was listed at No. 86, moving up eight spots from his previous ranking of No. 94. Senior Tommy Mylnikov also returned to the rankings, as he was slotted at No. 116.

SENIOR DAY
Tech will be celebrating the careers of Mylnikov and Artem Kapshuk prior to Sunday's match for senior day.

Mylnikov has been a key contributor for the Red Raiders since his arrival in 2015. He has compiled 38 singles wins, primarily on courts one and two, and has recently found success on the doubles side with partner Jackson Cobb, as the two have recorded 12 dual match wins this season. Mylnikov has also received Big 12 Player of the Week honors this year for his efforts in the month of January.

Kapshuk transferred to Tech in the summer of 2017, making an immediate impact as he racked up 16 singles wins and 11 in doubles play in dual matches during his first year as a Red Raider. He recently won a Cajun Tennis Classic doubles title with playing partner Valiev in the fall of 2018.

Tech will aim to mirror the senior day success of the 2017 squad, as the Red Raiders took down then No. 4 ranked Baylor by a score of 4-3 in their final home match.

The Red Raiders, who have made it a point of emphasis to start fast in doubles play this season, will turn to the steady hands of Thomson and Wynn on court one, as the two have produced 13 dual match victories this spring. The No. 7 ranked tandem are 7-3 over their last 10 matches, including a 4-2 tally over ranked foes.

Cobb and Mylnikov have also played well in doubles, as they are 12-6 during the spring, with six wins coming in their last 10 matches.

Thomson has had the hot hand in singles action as of late, as he has won three-straight matches on court 4 and is 3-1 in conference play, a team best.
