Texas Tech seeking first Big 12 title in program history
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech women's golf team is set to begin postseason play at the Big 12 Championships on Sunday at the Golf Club of Oklahoma in Broken Arrow, Okla.
The Red Raiders have four top-3 finishes this season, most recently at the 2019 Bruzzy Challenge. Tech also captured second place at the BYU Invitational and won the Valspar Augusta Invitational in March.
Tech is currently ranked 37th in the latest Golfstat poll which, at the moment, would likely place the Red Raiders in an NCAA Regional for the ninth time in head coach JoJo Robertson's 10 seasons.
At last year's event, the Red Raiders finished in sixth place and were led by Lauren Mason, who matched the lowest round ever by a Red Raider at the Big 12 Championships with a 2-under round of 70.
THE LINEUP
Robertson will roll out a lineup consisting of senior Mami Yamamoto, sophomores Sofia Garcia and Louisa Brunt as well as freshmen Anna Dong and Cecilie Nielsen.
THE FIELD
The nine-team field will feature all women's golf programs from across the Big 12 Conference.
Schools set to participate include No. 32 Baylor, No. 39 Iowa State, No. 75 Kansas, No. 87 Kansas State, No. 18 Oklahoma, No. 67 Oklahoma State, No. 2 Texas and No. 24 TCU. The Red Raiders are the third-highest ranked program in the field, giving Tech an opportunity to move up in the polls and increase their chances of landing a spot in an NCAA Regional.
THE COURSE
The Golf Club of Oklahoma is a 6,246 yard, par-72 course layout designed by Tom Fazio. This will be the first time the Golf Club of Oklahoma has hosted the Big 12 Championship.
THE FORMAT
The three-day championship will be determined in 54 holes, with 18 holes being played each day. Each team will compete with five individuals and the four best scores will be counted.
