Personal Bests Abound in California

Red Raider distance squad posts solid first day at Bryan Clay.
AZUSA, Calif. – Texas Tech's distance squad began its weekend out west with several personal records. A majority of the PRs came at Azusa Pacific University, host of the Bryan Clay Invitational.
The first PR came courtesy of Nokuthula Dlamini, who for the second straight meet ran a collegiate-best mark in the 5000m. Running in the second-fastest heat, Dlamini recorded a 16:30.82 – a huge 39-second PR. She placed eighth.
Competing in a later heat, Seselia Dala also ran a collegiate-best in the 5000m. She turned in a 16:43.86 Thursday, coming in at 36 seconds faster than her previous record. The time was good enough to win her heat comfortably. Binta Ka also PR'd in her 5k, running an 18:04.09.
On the men's side, Stephen Alvarez also took over as the team leader with a 14:54.23 in his 5000m. It counted as a four-second PR for the sophomore and was good for 13thin his heat.
Connor Hughes posted the best performance in the steeples, finishing 77th with a 9:41.81. Bret Leigh Nance ran an 11:43.11 in the women's steeple for an 84th-place showing.
Tech's California group will be led off Friday by Michael Benoit, whose 5000m at Long Beach State will be run at 12:40 p.m. CT.
