
Seven Red Raiders Garner Academic All-Big 12 Softball Honors

Five Red Raiders earned first-team honors while two student-athletes were named to the second team.
IRVING, Texas – Seven student-athletes from the Texas Tech softball team earned 2019 Academic All-Big 12 status, announced by the Big 12 Conference office on Thursday.

Five Red Raiders took home first-team honors while two student-athletes were represented on the second team. Kiana Workman was the lone senior on the first team and Karli Hamilton represented Tech's junior class. Three sophomores – Erin Edmoundson, Breanna Russell and Olga Zamarripa – rounded out Tech's first-team honors. The first-team nod was the second of Hamilton's career and the first for Edmoundson, Russell, Zamarripa.

Jessica Hartwell earned the fourth Big 12 academic award of her career with an appearance on the second team and sophomore Kelcy Leach earned her first academic honor as Tech's other second-teamer.

First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA. To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or over the previous two seasons.

Each student-athlete must have participated in 20 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
