The redshirt freshman ranked third in the Big 12 with eight saves on the year.
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech baseball's Clayton Beeter has been named a Freshman All-American by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper, the publication announced Wednesday morning.
Â
It is the fourth consecutive year and the sixth time in seven seasons the Red Raiders have been represented with a Freshman All-American by CBN, totaling nine honorees since 2013. Beeter joins Eric Gutierrez (2013), Jarrard Poteete (2013), Dylan Dusek (2014), Stephen Smith (2014), Steven Gingery (2016), Davis Martin (2017), Josh Jung (2017) and Gabe Holt (2018) as winners from the publication under Tim Tadlock.
Â
It's the first All-America award for the redshirt freshman right-handed pitcher. He is the second Red Raider honored by CB Newspaper in 2019 after junior Josh Jung was named Second Team All-America last week.
Â
A Colleyville, Texas, native, Beeter has made 19 appearances out of the bullpen with eight saves to rank third in the Big 12. He holds a 2.79 ERA with an impressive strikeout rate of nearly two per inning of work. Opponents have managed to hit .164 off of him, the best mark on the staff, scoring a total of seven runs on him for the year.
Â
Beeter was honored earlier this season as an All-Big 12 Second Team selection and Big 12 All-Freshman Team honoree. He had three saves during Big 12 play with a 2.70 ERA in seven appearances and struck out 16 in 6.2 innings of work.
Â
The Red Raiders continue their season this weekend in the NCAA Super Regionals against No. 9 Oklahoma State. The best-of-three series begins at 2 p.m. Friday on ESPN 2.
