Bahamas Bound: Red Raiders Set for Summer Tour
July 12, 2019 | Men's Basketball
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech men's basketball team is set for a foreign tour in the Bahamas from August 12-19 where they will play three games.Â
Â
The Red Raider Club would like to thank Butch's Rat Hole & Anchor Service and Teinert Construction for their generous support of the 2019 Men's Basketball Foreign Tour to Nassau, Bahamas. Their sponsorship helps pay for travel expenses for the team and coaching staff to compete.
Â
The Red Raiders open the tour against the Bahamas Select National Team on Wednesday, Aug. 14 before playing twice against Mega Bemax on Aug. 15 and Aug. 18. Flohoops.com will provide live and on-demand coverage for each of the three games at Kendal G.L. Isaacs National Gymnasium. Admission for the games is $10 cash. Mega Bemax is a professional basketball club based in Belgrade, Serbia and plays in the Basketball League of Serbia and the Adriatic League First Division.

NCAA rules allow a program to take advantage of a foreign tour once every four academic years. The Red Raiders traveled to Montreal, Quebec, Canada in 2015 where they played four games against universities from Canada in their last foreign tour. This will be the first foreign tour for the Red Raiders under head coach Chris Beard who was named the 2019 Associated Press National Coach of the Year and the Big 12 Coach of the Year for the second straight season. Beard is entering his fourth season at Texas Tech where he has led the program to a 76-31 record in his first three years.
Along with playing three games, the Red Raiders will conduct practice and also have the opportunity to conduct a youth clinic and community engagement while in the Bahamas.

Â
Texas Tech is coming off a historic season where the Red Raiders won the Big 12 regular-season championship, advanced to the Final Four for the first time in program history and then played in the national championship final. Tech, which started the season unranked and was picked seventh in the Big 12 preseason poll, had its winningest season ever, accumulating 31 victories and going 14-4 in conference play. The team earned wins over Northern Kentucky, Buffalo, Michigan, Gonzaga and Michigan State in the NCAA Tournament before falling in overtime to Virginia in the national championship game.
