Lady Raider Tennis Finishes Day One in Orlando

ORLANDO, Fla.  – The Texas Tech women's tennis team served up its spring season on Friday at the Orlando Invitational, taking on No. 19 Kansas in doubles and Auburn in singles.

The Lady Raiders were able to take four of seven singles matches from the Tigers, with freshman Bojana Marinkov picking up her first collegiate win. Marinkov, Olivia Peet, Isa Di Laura and Reagan Collins each earned victories in their matches.

Marinkov knocked off Auburn's Madeline Meredith in a 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 win for her first victory since arriving at Texas Tech from Australia earlier this month.

Peet defeated Carolyn Ansari, 4-6, 7-6, 6-2, in her first singles match of the spring, With the win, Peet pushed her record this season to 8-2.

Di Laura handled Lindsay Song in straight sets, 6-2, 7-5. It marked her third straight-set win this season and pushed her to 4-3 overall on the year.

Collins earned her first win of the spring in a three-set battle with Caraline Scheufler. Collins outlasted the Tiger in a 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 triumph.

A pair of Lady Raiders faced tough tests in their spring openers, battling ranked foes. Freshman Margarita Skriabina lost to No. 79 Taylor Russo, 4-6, 7-5, 1-6, while Lisa Mays fell to No. 123 Yu Chen, 6-1, 6-2. Nell Miller also came up short to Selin Ovunc, 6-3, 6-3.

In doubles against the 19th-ranked Jayhawks, the Lady Raiders fought hard in three close matches. At the top doubles position, Nell Miller and Lisa Mays fell, 6-4, to Malkia Ngounoue and Maria Toran Ribes. In the No. 2 spot, Peet and Skriabrina dropped a tight, 7-5, match to the 42nd-ranked tandem of Sonia Smagina Carmen Roxana Manu. At No. 3, Reagan Collins and Bojana Marinkov dropped their match to Julia Deming and Luniuska Delgado, 6-4.

The Lady Raiders will continue play at the Orlando Invitational on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. CT with doubles against Auburn, followed by singles against UCF and Virginia.
