Washington Set for NFLPA Collegiate Bowl Saturday

Broderick Washington Jr. will be on the National team Saturday in the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech senior defensive lineman Broderick Washington Jr. will look to impress NFL scouts and coaches Saturday when he suits up for the National team in the ninth-annual NFLPA Collegiate Bowl held at historic Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena, California.

Washington is the fourth Red Raider to play in the all-star game's short existence, joining the likes of former Red Raider greats Eric Stephens (2013), Bradley Marquez (2014) and Kenny Williams (2014). He will be the first Red Raider to play in the game on the defensive side of the ball.

Washington arrived in Southern California this past Sunday to take part in a week-long slate of practices in preparation for Saturday's game, which will air live on NFL Network beginning at 6 p.m. CT. All practices are attended by NFL coaches and scouts from all 32 organizations, giving Washington a perfect opportunity to impress potential teams.

The Longview native was a staple on the defensive line for the Red Raiders the past four seasons where he started in 38 games over his career, including his final 37 contests covering his sophomore through senior seasons.

Washington made 138 tackles over his career as a Red Raider, which featured 15.5 tackles for a loss and 8.5 sacks. He posted at least 35 tackles each of the past three years, totaling a career-high 44 as a sophomore in 2017 followed by 41 in 2018 and 39 this past season.

Washington is one of three Red Raiders selected to a postseason all-star game as both Terence Steele and Jordyn Brooks will take part in Senior Bowl festivities next weekend.
