Red Raiders Open Spring Slate in Dallas
January 31, 2020 | Women's Golf
DALLAS, Texas – The Texas Tech women's golf team is set to tee of their spring campaign with a trip to Dallas for the SMU/DAC Challenge at the Dallas Athletic Club.
Monday's two-round affair will take place at the Dallas Athletic Club, the site of the Big 12 Championships in late April. The six-team field features five clubs ranked in the top-100 of Golfweek's collegiate team rankings, including top-seeded Baylor (32), North Texas (54), Kansas State (97) and Tulsa (97). The Red Raiders are currently ranked No. 33.
The Red Raiders are looking to build off their momentum in the fall session, where they finished three of five events in the top-three, including a second place finish in October's Jim West Challenge in San Marcos.
Tech will be led by Sofia Garcia on Monday, who concluded the fall semester with a 70.07 scoring average. Garcia picked up a win at the Trinity Forest Invitational to begin the year, pushing her career total to four solo wins, a program-best. Her third-round mark of 64 in Dallas also tied her program-record for a low round from a year ago.
The Red Raiders will also travel Amy Taylor and Anna Dong to Monday's event. Taylor notched a top-10 showing at the Jim West Challenge after shooting 5-under in three rounds. Dong also played well in the fall, finishing in the top-28 on three occasions.
Gala Dumez, in her first semester as a Red Raider, had a pair of top-20 postings including a career-best tie for 9th in San Marcos. Louisa Brunt is set to round out the team lineup for Tech following two top-10 finishes in the fall of 2019.
Cecilie Nielsen will compete as an individual on Monday.
