Red Raider Tennis Hosts West Texas Pro Tennis October Open

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Red Raider men's tennis team will take the courts at the Burgess Rushing Tennis Center this weekend for the West Texas Pro Tennis October Open.

The tournament is free to the public and runs Friday through Monday. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and in an effort to maintain social distancing, the event will feature only singles for both men's and women's draws.

The Red Raiders are coming off a solid performance at the Lake Tennis Invite where they found success in the early session taking four of six matches against the likes of Oklahoma and Texas. Senior Parker Wynn led the way on court one with a 3-6, 6-3, 10-7 decision over Martinez of Oklahoma. Junior Franco Ribero also won his first match at a 6-3, 7-5 clip over Sheehy of the Sooners. Isaac Arevalo continued a perfect weekend in solo play with a 6-2, 7-6 victory on court four versus Allen of Texas before Ilgiz Valiev wrapped the opening round with a 6-2, 7-5 win against Bullard of Texas.
In the fourth and final round of the tournament, Reed Collier secured a victory over Talluri of Texas in straight sets at 7-5, 6-2. Arevalo completed a 4-0 run in Frisco by taking down Rodriguez of Oklahoma at 6-3, 6-7, 10-8.
