Lady Raiders Wrap Successful First Day in College Station

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Texas Tech Lady Raider tennis team returned to the court at the Texas A&M Fall Invitational in College Station, Texas on Friday.
The Texas Tech duo of Kaitlin Staines and Nell Miller went 2-0 on the day in doubles to begin the weekend. The pair started with a 6-2 win over Peyton Stearns and Malaika Rapolu of Texas, before going on to beat Rice's Michaela Haet and Linda Huang in the second round.
The Lady Raiders finished strong, going 3-1 in singles to wrap up the day.
Staines moved onto singles later in the day to beat Diae El Jardi of Rice in three sets, 3-6, 6-2, 6-4. A second Tech win in singles was secured by Nell Miller against Texas State's Rishona Israel Lewis in a 6-2, 6-1 victory.
In Olivia Mikkelson's first collegiate event, she picked up a singles triumph against Andrea Fuchs of Texas State, 6-3, 7-5.
To start off only her second collegiate tournament, freshman Kailey Evans fought a tough battle against Texas State, but came up short in three sets.
Play will continue in College Station beginning at 11 a.m. on Saturday with one match of both doubles and singles.
