Red Raiders See Singles Success on Day 2 of the Big 6 Fall Invitational
November 07, 2020 | Men's Tennis
The second day of the Big 6 Fall Invitational started with two doubles wins for the Red Raiders. The senior pair of IIgiz Valiev and Parker Wynn defeated Nevis Arimilli and Eshan Talluri of the University of Texas, 8-3. The Red Raiders also found success in doubles play as Dimi Azoidis and Reed Collier bested the Oklahoma Sooners tandem of Jonathan Sheehy and Nathan Han, 8-4.
Â
The Red Raiders saw very strong outings in singles play paced by junior Dimi Azoidis and sophomore Connor Johnson. Azoidis capped a strong day on the court by defeating Oklahoma Sooner Justin Schlagater, 6-4, 1-6, 6-3. Sophomore Connor Johnson put together one of the best performances of his young career to best Chih Chi Huang of the University of Texas, 6-3,6-4.Â
"I thought we came out and played aggressive in doubles in a few spots, and in singles we got off to a very good start with some early wins.", said Head Coach Danny Whitehead. "We had a few very high quality wins in singles and I was happy with how we played in the matches we dropped.  We gave ourselves good chances against good players. We get one more day of competition as a team this fall and I expect our team to bring our best energy and fight tomorrow."Â
The Red Raiders will return to the court tomorrow for the final day of the Big 6 Fall Invitational at the Richland Tennis Center in Fort Worth, Texas.Â
