Red Raiders Return to Icon Invitational
February 20, 2020 | Women's Golf
HOUSTON, Texas – The Texas Tech women's golf team will compete in their third tournament of the spring season as they travel to Houston to take on the Icon Invitational, beginning on Monday, at The Woodlands Country Club.
The Icon Invitational features one of the strongest fields of the season, with a pair of top-five teams in Texas (1) and Kent State (5), to highlight a field of 13 programs ranked inside Golfweek Magazine's top-100.
The Red Raiders are competing in their third-consecutive Icon Invitational and will look to improve upon last year's performance, where they finished in solo 9th.
Tech is traveling three players who participated a year ago, headed by Sofia Garcia and Cecilie Nielsen, who both finished last year's event in a tie for 24th. Garcia has posted a top-five finish in five events this season and currently holds a scoring average of 71.16. Nielsen has notched one top-10 finish this year at the SMU/DAC Challenge earlier this month.
Anna Dong rounds out the returnees for Tech following two top-25 showings, including a second-place finish in Dallas to begin the spring. Her scoring average of 73.47 is a team-second best.
Freshman Gala Dumez will make her Icon Invitational debut in Houston as she searches for another strong performance in an introductory season that has featured three top-10's. Amy Taylor rounds out the lineup for head coach JoJo Robertson on Monday.
Live scoring for the Lady Puerto Rico Classic will be provided by Golfstat.com.
