Trio of Red Raiders Earn Academic All-Big 12 Honors

LUBBOCK, Texas – Davide Moretti, Kevin McCullar and Andrei Savrasov have earned Academic All-Big 12 Men's Basketball Team honors to give Texas Tech three selections for the award that highlights their work in the classroom. Moretti and McCullar are first-team selections and Savrasov earned second-team honors.
The 2020 Academic All-Big 12 Men's Basketball Team features 34 student-athletes. There are 22 first-team honorees and 12 members on the second team.
A junior from Italy, Moretti is a two-time Academic All-Big 12 selection and has also earned CoSIDA Academic All-District honors the past two years. He was named the NCAA Elite 90 winner at last year's Final Four for his academic success. Moretti has scored 929 career points in 103 games played for the Red Raiders and is second on the NCAA active career leader list for free throws at 90.4 percent (207 of 229). He is currently averaging 13.0 points per game this season. McCullar and Savrasov are both redshirt freshmen for the Red Raiders. A guard from San Antonio, McCullar has started the past three games and played in 26 this season. He is averaging 5.5 points and 3.1 rebounds per game, including scoring a team-high 13 on Tuesday at Oklahoma and a career-high 15 at Oklahoma State on Feb. 15. He had a career-high 11 rebounds last Saturday at Iowa State and has scored in double figures in six games this season. A forward from Russia, Savrasov has played in 20 games this season and is averaging 1.2 points and 1.1 rebounds per game. He scored a season-high with six points in games against TCU and Creighton along with scoring five points last Saturday at Iowa State.
Udoka Azubuike (Kansas), Chase Harler (West Virginia) and Logan Routt (West Virginia) earned Academic All-Big 12 honors for a third consecutive season. Additionally, Eric Steyer (Iowa State), Trey Reeves (Oklahoma State) and Kamaka Hepa (Texas) were nominated with a 4.00 grade point average.
West Virginia led all teams with six representatives, while Baylor and Iowa State followed with five each.
First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 20 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
