LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech Lady Raider basketball team fell, 71-69, to West Virginia on Wednesday night at United Supermarkets Arena.
HOW IT HAPPENED
In her final regular season home game as a Lady Raider, senior Brittany Brewer finished with 21 points, 14 rebounds and six blocks on 10-of-15 shooting from the floor. It marked Brewer's 14th double-double of the season. Chrislyn Carr added 17 points, five rebounds and four assists, and Andrayah Adams scored 15 while pulling down four rebounds.
Tech outscored West Virginia in the first, third and fourth quarters, but a 16-6 second quarter by the Mountaineers proved to be the difference in the game.
Brewer scored 12 points and grabbed six rebounds in the opening quarter to help the Lady Raiders to a 21-16 lead after the first 10 minutes. Tech shot 56.3 percent in the opening frame, while holding West Virginia to 36.8 percent.
After West Virginia's second quarter run to go into the half with the lead, Tech had a strong start to the second half, taking a three-point lead after a 7-0 run in the early minutes of the period. West Virginia would go on a scoring run of their own late in the quarter to lead by four heading to the fourth.
The Lady Raiders were able to outscore the Mountaineers, 22-20, in the fourth quarter, but it wouldn't be enough as Tech struggled hitting shots late and West Virginia escaped with the win.
NOTABLE
- For the first time this season, Texas Tech went with the starting five of Chrislyn Carr, Andrayah Adams, Maka Jackson, Lexi Gordon and Brittany Brewer. The Lady Raiders moved to 0-1 this season when deploying this starting five.
- Senior Brittany Brewer had a strong opening quarter, recording 12 points and six rebounds in the opening 10 minutes of the game to help Tech to an early, 21-16 lead after one. Brewer finished with 21 points, 14 rebounds and six blocks for her 14th double-double of the season.
