Fulford Tabbed to Buster Posey Award Watch List

Award honors the top division one catcher
LUBBOCK, Texas – Junior Braxton Fulford of the No. 2 Texas Tech baseball team was named to the watch list for the 2020 Buster Posey National Collegiate Catcher of the Year Award, presented by the Kamerion Wimbley Foundation, the organization announced Monday.

Fulford is one of 60 student-athletes named to the list for the award, which is presented annually to the top division one collegiate catcher. He is one of three players representing the Big 12 on the list.

One of the game's top defensive catchers, Fulford is hitting .250 on the year with two doubles and 11 RBI. A member of the All-Big 12 Preseason Team, he was Tech's most improved offensive player in 2019 as he increased his batting average over .100 points while starting 57 games behind the plate.

The watch list be narrowed down to semifinalists on May 19 and the three finalists will be announced June 3. The winner will be announced at the 23rd Annual Greater Wichita Sports Banquet on June 25.

Fulford and the Red Raiders take on No. 10 Mississippi State in a two-game midweek series in Biloxi, Miss., starting with a 6 p.m. first pitch on Tuesday.
