
Softball Sets Program Record with 13 Academic All-Big 12 Honorees

Texas Tech led the league with 13 All-Big 12 selections in 2020.
IRVING, Texas – The Texas Tech softball team led the Big 12 Conference as the Red Raiders set a program record with 13 members on the Academic All-Big 12 Teams, announced by the league Friday.

A record 12 student-athletes made up Texas Tech's first team members while one Red Raider was named to the second team. Tech's 13 honorees topped the previous record of 10 Academic All-Big 12 selections from the 2012 season.

Making their first appearance on the Academic All-Big 12 First Team, seniors Shelby Henderson and Missy Zoch picked up their first academic accolades as Red Raiders. Maintaining her momentum in the classroom, redshirt senior Karli Hamilton picked up the first-team honor for the third year in a row.

Juniors Erin Edmoundson and Breanna Russell earned their second nod to the Academic All-Big 12 First Team and Kelcy Leach, who was named to the second team in 2019, made the jump to the first team this season. Heaven Burton capped off the junior class with the first academic nod of her career.

Sophomores Peyton Blythe, Morgan Hornback, Zoe Jones, Miranda Padilla and Yvonne Whaley rounded out Tech's first-team selections.

Redshirt sophomore Myamie Thompson stood as the Red Raiders' second-team honoree as she picked up the first academic award of her career.

First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.

To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
