Hamilton, Henderson earn CoSIDA Academic All-District Honors

The two seniors will advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot.
LUBBOCK, Texas – Seniors Karli Hamilton and Shelby Henderson were honored for their academic success as they represented the Texas Tech softball team on the 2020 CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team, announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America on Thursday, May 14.

Henderson earned her second academic award of the year thanks to a 3.80 GPA as an animal science/pre-veterinary major. Hamilton, a marketing major, picked up her second academic accolade as well thanks to a 3.59 GPA.

In an abbreviated 2020 campaign, Henderson made 10 starts and 17 appearances while leading the lineup with a .471 on-base percentage. She tied for second on the squad with eight walks and finished the season with a perfect 2-for-2 outing with one walk and the first home run of her Red Raider career at Hawaii on March 11.

Honored as a 2020 Senior CLASS Award candidate, Hamilton started all 26 games and led the team with 13 walks and three sacrifice bunts. She tied for second on the team with four doubles while taking third with 13 runs scored, 16 RBI and four stolen bases. She finished her 2020 campaign with a .286 batting average and a .395 on-base percentage.

Texas Tech led the Big 12 conference with two selections while Baylor, Iowa State and Oklahoma each tallied one honoree.

The seniors are the second and third Red Raiders to earn the academic accolade under head coach Adrian Gregory's tenure and the first since 2017 to receive the award.

The 2020 Academic All-District® Softball Team, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. As members of the District 7 First Team, Hamilton and Henderson will advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot. Academic All-America honorees will be announced from June 8-11.
