Volleyball Excels in the Classroom

The Red Raiders thrived in the classroom during the 2019-20 academic year.
LUBBOCK, Texas – Proving to make academics a priority, the Texas Tech volleyball team finished the year with a plethora of academic honors.

Lauren Dodson, Lindsey Dodson, Caitlin Dugan, Kiari Gier, Brooke Kanas, Alex Kirby and Katy Northcut all made the Dean's List while Haley Harman, Emerson Solano and Audrey Tuttle were named to the President's List.

Along with academic laurels from Texas Tech, 18 members of the team made their mark in the classroom and were named to the 2019 Fall Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll.

Acknowledging all participants, the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll is an inclusive honor for all sports sponsored by the membership of the league. The Honor Roll is recorded and released each semester and recognizes those student-athletes who registered a 3.0 or better grade point average the previous semester.

The Red Raiders included in the academic honor were Hannah Allison, Chandler Atwood, Allison Bloss, Lauren Dodson, Lindsey Dodson, Caitlin Dugan, Kiari Gier, Haley Harman, Emily Hill, Karrington Jones, Brooke Kanas, Alex Kirby, Katy Northcut, Kylie Rittimann, Maggie Sagers, Emerson Solano, Kylie Trefflich and Audrey Tuttle.

At the end of the 2019 season, the Red Raiders set a program record with 12 members on the Academic All-Big 12 Teams for the fall 2019 semester.

Along with team honors, two Red Raiders finished the year with individual academic honors.

Bloss was recognized as Tech's top graduating senior from the volleyball team at the 2020 Texas Tech Athletics Virtual Red & Black Gala and Harman took home the Big 12 Conference's most prestigious academic award – the Dr. Gerald Lage Academic Achievement Award.

The conference's highest academic honor, the award is in memory of Lage, who served as the Oklahoma State faculty athletics representative with the NCAA and the Big Eight/Big 12 Conference from 1983 until his death in 2007. He was the chairman on three occasions, in 1985-86, 1993-94 and most recently in 2003-04.
In order to be eligible for the accolade, student-athletes must have lettered at least once in their career while maintaining residence at their institution for at least one academic year. The honoree, which can only be recognized once, should have 100 hours of earned credit with a cumulative grade-point average of 3.80 at the time of the nomination.
