Watkins will serve as the Vice Chair for the 2021-22 academic year
LUBBOCK, Texas – Simone Watkins, a sprints and hurdles specialist on the Texas Tech track and field team, will serve as the Vice Chair for the Big 12 Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) during the 2021-22 academic year.
As Vice Chair, her main responsibilities include serving as a primary line of communication, along with the Chair, to the conference SAAC liaison, assist in chairing monthly teleconference calls and reviewing agenda meetings, while serving on Dr. Prentice Gautt's Student-Athlete Experience Committee.
"I'm truly grateful that I was elected to be in this position and that I have the support Texas Tech's SAAC for their encouragement to step into this role," said Watkins. "Overall, it just means a lot to be at a university and in a conference that really focuses on personal development and wanting to receive feedback from student-athletes, so that we can all become better."
Watkins is entering her sophomore year at Tech. Bridging the indoor and outdoor seasons in 2021, the Las Colinas, Texas native registered 13 top 10 finals finishes, including a trio of first-place outings. All three first-place finishes came as part of the 4x400 team. She capped off her season at the NCAA Division I West prelims, competing in the 400 hurdles.
