October 27, 2021 | Women's Basketball
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech senior Vivian Gray has been named to the 2022 Cheryl Miller Award watch list by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and the Women's Basketball Coaches Association. Gray was a 2021 Cheryl Miller Award Top-10 Finalist after averaging 19.8 points and 8.2 rebounds per game last season and is now on a list of 20 candidates for this year's award.
Named after the three-time Naismith Player of the Year and Class of 1995 Hall of Famer, the annual award in its fifth year recognizes the top small forwards in women's NCAA Division I college basketball. A national committee of top college basketball personnel determined the watch list of 20 candidates. Gray is joined by Ashley Jones (Iowa State) and Madi Williams (Oklahoma) from the Big 12 on the watch list.Â
A three-time All-American, Gray earned unanimous 2021-22 Preseason All-Big 12 selection after earning All-Big 12 First Team for the third straight season last year. The super senior finished the 2020-21 campaign fourth in the conference in scoring (19.8 ppg), eighth in rebounding (8.2 rpg), 10th in field goal percentage (.438) and fifth in blocked shots (1.6 bpg). She was the only power five player in the country to average 19+ points, 8+ rebounds and 2.5+ assists, earning her way to WBCA Coaches All-America Honorable Mention. The Argyle, Texas native played three seasons at Oklahoma State before transferring to Texas Tech last season.
