Cross Country Recap: Red Raiders Conclude Big 12 Meet

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech men's and women's cross country teams wrapped up the Big 12 Championship meet Friday morning as the men placed seventh while the women finished eighth overall.
The men placed a trio of runners in the top 50 paced by freshman Edward Rush who clocked in a time of 26:24.4 to finish 40th. Richard Taylor was four places behind in 44th (26:35.9) as Thomas Velvin crossed the line 49th (26:47.7).
"Solid effort for the men's team," said head coach Jon Murray. "They handled the strong wind and competition well. I am proud of the way they competed."
In the women's race, Halena Rahmaan scored first for the Red Raiders coming in 24th overall with a time of 22:06.0. Sharon Chumo (23:49.9) and Binta Ka (24:05.1) rounded out the top three for Texas Tech, coming in 56th and 59th, respectively.
"Halena did a great job leading the ladies," said Murray. "The group handled the conditions well and did their best."
The Oklahoma State men's and women's teams captured the Big 12 title Friday morning. For the OSU men, it was their second consecutive crown.
The Championship will be broadcasted tomorrow, Oct. 30 at 9:00 a.m. CT on Big 12 Now on ESPN+ and commentated by Lincoln Rose and Johanna Gretschel.
