Red Raiders announce 2022 softball schedule

The schedule features 24 games against 13 different 2021 NCAA Tournament teams.
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech softball team has announced its 2022 schedule featuring 21 games at Rocky Johnson Field. The season will begin on Feb. 11 in Houston, Texas with the home opener slated for March 5 for the Jeannine McHaney Memorial Classic.
The Red Raiders' schedule features 46 total games with 24 meetings against NCAA Tournament teams from a season ago.
"We are excited with the schedule we were able to build this year," said second year head coach Sami Ward. "We will be competing against the best in nonconference and conference play which creates an amazing opportunity for our team to challenge ourselves and grow our program. If we want to be the best, we need to compete against the best and we think we have scheduled for that."
Texas Tech will spend the first month of the season on the road, opening at the University of Houston for a tournament featuring the Cougars and UTSA Feb. 11-13. From there, the Red Raiders will make their way to the Sunshine state for their second appearance in the St. Pete Clearwater Elite Invitational where Tech will face six NCAA Tournament teams: Auburn, Clemson, Northwestern, UCF, Washington and LSU. The tournament begins Feb. 17 and runs through Feb. 20 with games featured on ESPN+, SEC Network and ACC Network.
The Red Raiders will stay on the road for one more week when they make their way across the country to Cathedral City, Calif. for the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic Feb. 24-27. Tech will open the tournament with Cal Baptist before playing Missouri, UCLA and Long Beach State followed by a rematch against Northwestern to close the tournament.
Tech will come home in March, hosting North Texas and Southern University in the Jeannine McHaney Memorial classic March 5-6 at Rocky Johnson Field. The Red Raiders will spend the next two weekends at home when Tulsa and Texas A&M- Corpus Christi visit for the Texas Tech Invitational March 12-13 followed by Incarnate Word and Northern Colorado at the Red Raider Classic March 19-20.
The Big 12 slate begins March 25 as the Red Raiders travel to Stillwater, Okla. for a three-game series against the Cowgirls. Tech will host Kansas April 1-3 before welcoming the defending National Champion Oklahoma Sooners to Lubbock April 8-10.
The Red Raiders will head back on the road for the next two weekends, stopping first in Ames, Iowa to play Iowa State April 14-16, followed by a midweek meeting with Abilene Christian April 20. The final road trip of the season will take place April 22-24 as Tech makes the trip to Waco to face the Baylor Bears.
The regular season will wrap up at Rocky Johnson Field April 29-May 1 as the Red Raiders play host to in-state rival Texas.
The Big 12 Championship will be held May 13-14 at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City. The Red Raiders took home third place at the tournament last season as the six-seed after upsetting Baylor and No. 10 Texas.
