Red Raiders Open Cabo Collegiate in San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO – The Texas Tech men's golf team will go into the second round of the Cabo Collegiate in 11th after posting 306 (8-over) on Monday at TPC San Antonio Oaks Course.
Ludvig Aberg and Kyle Hogan led the Red Raiders in the first round of the tournament with 75s which puts them in 21st place and six back of tournament leader Patrick Welch of Oklahoma. Aberg and Hogan both are at 3-over going into the second round on Tuesday. The 54-hole tournament will have 18 more holes starting at 9 a.m. for TTU on Tuesday before the 16-team field completes the event with the championship round on Wednesday. The tournament medalist will earn an exemption to compete in the PGA Tour's Valero Texas Open.
Baard Skogen and Carl Didrik Meen Fosaas both shot 78s while Garrett Martin completed his day with an 83. Aberg, who is at No. 4 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking and is coming off a tournament win at The Prestige two weeks ago, finished his first 18 holes with two birdies but also had three bogeys and a double to finish 3-over. Hogan would make one birdie and four bogeys in his round to post his 75.
Oklahoma leads the tournament at 1-under after posting a team total 287 on Monday, while Texas A&M is at 9-over followed by Texas and Florida State who both shot 10-over. Oklahoma State is in fifth at 11-over, Baylor (12-over) is sixth and Arizona State (13-over) and Arkansas (13-over) are tied for seventh.
Welch took the opening round lead with four birdies and only one bogey, while John Pak (Florida State), John Pak (Florida State) and Pierceson Coody (Texas) are tied for second at 1-under.
The Red Raiders will remain in Texas for their next tournament, playing at the Texas Invitational (March 15-16) in Austin. The Valero Open is scheduled for March 29-April 4. The Valero Texas Open is the sixth-oldest professional tournament in golf worldwide, the third-oldest on the PGA TOUR and the longest held in the same city. In 2022, the tournament will celebrate its 100th anniversary.
