Tech opens weekend with All-America performances from two throwers.
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Texas Tech had two throwers open the NCAA Indoor Championships Thursday.
Gabe Oladipo finished 12th in the men's weight throw. After clinching the Big 12 title and breaking his own school record four times this season, Oladipo would earn the first indoor All-America award of his career. Both of his distances came in over 21 meters. After fouling the first attempt, Oladipo landed one at 68'-11.75" (21.02m) to slide into ninth and a potential finals bid. However, despite increasing his top mark to 69'-3.25" (21.11m) on the last series, he would be pushed out by big marks from Eastern Michigan and Washington throwers.
Seasons Usual also achieved indoor All-American status for the first time in her career Thursday. The back-to-back Big 12 Champion marked her best throw on her third attempt. Her opening throw landed at 66'-4.5" (20.23m) to put her in ninth to start. She would descend to 12th and then 14th as the rest of the field completed their ensuing series. Usual fouled on her second attempt, then landed her best of the day at 66'-5.75" (20.26m), but it would not be enough to buy her three more throws.
Friday's action in Fayetteville will begin at 11 a.m. with Kayli Johnson in the shot put. High jumper Jack Scarborough will get the men started at 11:30 a.m. The meet will be streamed on ESPN3.
