Lopez, Aberg Earn Top-10 Finishes at Aggie Invitational

BRYAN, Texas – Texas Tech senior Andy Lopez and sophomore Ludvig Aberg recorded top-10 individual finishes and the No. 25 Red Raiders claimed fourth at The Aggie Invitational which was completed on Sunday at the Traditions Golf Club.
The Red Raiders secured their fifth top-5 team finish of the season after finishing the tournament at 9-over with a 298-288-287 – 873 scorecard. Tech was within four strokes of the lead with teams on the back-9 but were unable to complete the comeback as NO. 12 Texas A&M and No. 1 Oklahoma tied for the tournament title at 2-over. Lopez and Aberg finished Aggie Invitational at 1-over for sixth with Texas A&M's Sam Bennett winning his home event at 6-under-par.
Playing as an individual, Tech freshman Baard Skogen shot Sunday's low-round with a 5-under 67 with six birdies and a lone bogey. Skogen, who finished 12th overall, completed the three-day tournament at 2-over with a 75-76-67 – 281 total.
A sophomore from Sweden, Aberg secured his fifth top-10 finish of the season and fourth during the spring portion. Currently No. 5 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking, Aberg finished this week's tournament with a 73-73-71 – 217 scorecard for the Red Raiders. Lopez had his second top-10 finish of the season after posting rounds of 75-71-71 for his 217 total. Aberg had his first round of the tournament under-par on Sunday after making four birdies and three bogeys, while Lopez recorded his second straight round of 1-under with three birdies on Sunday with only two bogeys.
Carl Didrik Meen Fosaas finished the tournament at 3-over with a 74-72-73 – 291 results. The Tech junior had also competed this week at the DBU Classic where he tied for second at 6-under along with fellow Red Raiders JP Roller and Markus Braadlie. Meen Fosaas shot even-par on Saturday and followed with a round of 1-over on the final day with three birdies and four bogeys. Kyle Hogan would finish with a 76-72-77 – 225 card and sophomore Garrett Martin shot 78-76-72 – 226. Martin closed out the three-day event with an even-par round on Sunday with a pair of back-9 birdies and only two bogeys.
Bennett secured the individual title by one shot over Pierceson Coody (Texas) who shot 5-under while Luke Dossey (Baylor) took third at 2-under and Jordan Less (Illinois) was at 1-under for fourth. Only four of the 96 golfers finished the event at under-par.
Texas Tech will return from Bryan-College Station to compete in its final regular-season tournament at the Thunderbird Collegiate next weekend in Phoenix, Arizona before traveling to Hutchinson, Kansas for the Big 12 Championship on April 26-28.
