
Tech Trio Earns ABCA All-Region Awards

Jung, Conley, Baker spread across the ABCA first and second teams
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech baseball's Jace Jung, Cal Conley and Dru Baker have been named to the 2021 American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings All-Central Region teams, it was announced today.

Jung and Conley were placed on the Central All-Region First Team, while Baker garnered second team accolades. It is the first time all three student-athletes have been honored by the ABCA.

This is the third time since 2017 Tech has had at least three selections on the All-Region lists. Tech has had 16 Red Raiders appear on the ABCA/Rawlings All-Region teams under head coach Tim Tadlock and staff.

First team selections are nominated for ABCA/Rawlings All-America honors, which will be announced on June 19.

Jung completed one of the most decorated freshman seasons in program history. In addition to earning Big 12 Player of the Year, he was a unanimous choice to the All-Big 12 First Team. Nationally, he has been named a First Team All-American by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper, National Freshman Hitter of the Year by the NCBWA, along with their District 7 Co-Player of the Year. He hit .337 on the year and led the Big 12 with 21 home runs, 67 RBI and a .697 slugging percentage. The San Antonio native is a Golden Spikes Award semifinalist, a Dick Howser Trophy finalist, and a Bobby Bragan Collegiate Slugger Award finalist.

Conley was honored earlier this week with the 2021 Brooks Wallace Award, which goes to the nation's top shortstop. He was an All-Big 12 First Team selection and received second team All-America accolades from Collegiate Baseball Newspaper. He and Jung were also Freshman All-Americans by the NCBWA. Conley hit .329 at the plate with 15 home runs and 55 RBI. He led the squad with 23 multi-hit games and hit safely in 43-of-56 games this season.

Baker was Tech's third member of the All-Big 12 First Team following a strong sophomore campaign. Baker led the Red Raiders in batting at .343, doubles with 14 and stolen bases with 18. He played a key role at the top of the lineup with 21 multi-hit games, 11 of which were three hits or more. Additionally, his speed and arm were a weapon for Tech defensively in left field as he finished with seven outfield assists on the year.

The Red Raiders finished the season at 39-17 overall, advancing to the NCAA Super Regional round for a third-consecutive season and fifth time overall under head coach Tim Tadlock. Â
