August 04, 2021 | Men's Golf
LUBBOCK, Texas – Ten golf tournaments leading into the 2022 Big 12 Championship have been announced by Texas Tech head coach Greg Sands for the 2021-22 season. The Red Raiders are set to make their debut at The Carmel Cup on Sept. 3-5 in Pebble Beach, California.
The Red Raiders are set to compete in four tournaments in the fall and six in the spring before the 2021 Big 12 Championship from April 25-27 at Whispering Pines Golf Club in Trinity, Texas.
Along with their trip to Pebble Beach, the team will play at the Maridoe Collegiate, Blessings Collegiate and Big 12 Match Play Tournament in the fall. The Red Raiders won the 2019 Carmel Cup team championship along with Sandy Scott earning the individual championship. Tech also finished as The Carmel Cup runner-up in 2017. The team returns to play in the Maridoe on Sept. 13-15 in Carrollton, Texas after finishing eighth last season and will then play at the Blessings Collegiate (Oct. 4-6) in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
The Red Raiders will conclude the fall portion of its schedule at the Big 12 Match Play Tournament from Oct. 11-13 at the Houston Oaks Country Club in Houston, Texas. Tech won the 2019 Match Play Tournament two years ago.
Following a season with decreased travel ability due to COVID, Texas Tech will return to an expanded map that starts the spring with a trip to Hawaii. The team will compete in the Amer Ari from Feb. 3-5 in Waikoloa, Hawaii and then play at The Prestige in La Quinta, California (Feb. 21-23). Ludvig Aberg earned his first collegiate championship at The Prestige last season by shooting 4-under-par. The Red Raiders will then play in the Cabo Collegiate for the second straight season, but this time in Mexico as the tournament returns home after competition was held in San Antonio last season. The Red Raiders will compete in the prestigious event from Feb. 27-March 1 in Los Cabos, Mexico after taking fourth last season at TPC San Antonio.
The lone east coast trip sends the Red Raiders to Florida where they will compete in the Valspar Collegiate (March 28-29) in Palm City, Florida before returning to Texas to play at the Aggie Invitational (April 9-10) in College Station. The team completes its regular-season schedule by playing back at The Thunderbird Collegiate in Phoenix, Arizona. Aberg claimed his second individual championship at the Thunderbird last season.
The NCAA Championship will once again be held at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona.
