LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech will be represented in the NBA Summer League by Tariq Owens (Dallas), Matt Mooney (Utah), Jahmi'us Ramsey (Sacramento) and Mac McClung (Los Angeles Lakers) with games beginning on Sunday in Las Vegas. A list of games with a Red Raider on the roster is below.Â
The 16th MGM Resorts NBA Summer League will feature all 30 NBA teams playing five games each with games at the Cox Pavilion and Thomas & Mack Center. After every team plays four games, the two teams with the best records from the first four games will meet in the Championship Game on Tuesday, Aug. 17 at 8 p.m. on ESPN.Â
McClung averaged 8.5 points and 2.0 assists in two games played at the California Classic last week in Sacramento after joining the Lakers as a free agent. He scored 11 points in 16 minutes, including shooting 7-for-7 from the free-throw line against the Kings on Wednesday in the final game in California. Through two games in Salt Lake City, Mooney has played two games with Jazz White and averaged 4.0 points per game. The final game of the SLC event is set for tonight at 9 p.m. (CST) on ESPNU before the Jazz send one team to play in Las Vegas.
McClung joined the Red Raiders last season as a transfer after playing his first two collegiate seasons at Georgetown. He went undrafted, but quickly joined the Lakers as a free agent. McClung led the Red Raiders in scoring at 15.5 points per game last season and was named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Year along with securing USBWA and NABC All-District, All-Big 12 Second Team and All-Big 12 Newcomer Team Honors. Ramsey played 13 games for the Kings last season where he averaged 3.1 points per game in his rookie season.
Owens and Mooney played one season at Texas Tech, helping to lead the Red Raiders to the 2019 NCAA National Championship final as graduate transfers. Owens has played in three NBA games with Phoenix in the 2019-20 season, while Mooney made four appearances for Cleveland. The pair of Texas Tech legends will look to impress this summer and sign with teams. Mooney went for 11.3 points per game, supplied 126 assists and led the Red Raiders with 70 steals in his final collegiate season. He earned All-Big 12 Second Team, All-Newcomer and All-Defensive Team honors for his production in the regular season and was named to the Final Four All-Tournament Team after matching a career-high with 22 points in the semifinal win over Michigan State. Owens set a new single-season program record with 92 blocked shots in his only season at Tech, including an eight-block performance against Memphis. He finished the season with 2.42 blocks per game which ranked 13th nationally and also provided 8.7 points and 5.8 rebounds per game for the Red Raiders. Owens had a career-high 14 rebounds in the regular-season finale at Iowa State to help lead the Red Raiders to the program's first Big 12 regular-season championship and had 10 rebounds in the Sweet 16 win over Michigan.
