Skogen Earns Maridoe Collegiate Runner-Up

CARROLLTON, Texas – Baard Skogen forced a playoff for the individual championship but would finish as the Maridoe Collegiate Invitational runner-up on Wednesday at the Maridoe Golf Club. Skogen shot 4-under-par in the final round to finish at 7-under to tie with Arizona State's Cameron Sisk who would win medalist honors with a par on the playoff hole while Skogen bogeyed. Â
No. 9 Texas Tech finished the tournament in fourth place after shooting 9-over as a team, including shooting 4-under in the final round. The Red Raiders carded 299-290-284 in the tournament with Oklahoma winning the event at 3-under by shooting 7-under on Wednesday. Texas finished second at 2-under followed by Arizona State (2-over) and the Red Raiders. Sisk earned an exemption into the Houston Open with the win. The PGA Tour event will be played at Memorial Park from Nov. 11-14 in Houston.
In the playoff, Skogen would hit the pin out on his second attempt out of the sand trap and tap in for par. Sisk two-putted to earn the win.Â
Skogen shot 68 for the second straight day after making six birdies in his round and only two bogeys. He would make birdie on five par 4s and also the 609-yard, No. 11 par 5. Skogen bogeyed his first and last hole between the strong round. A sophomore from Norway, Skogen now has recorded back-to-back top-10 finishes after taking 10th at The Carmel Cup to begin the season at the start of the month. He didn't have a top-10 finish during a solid freshman season where he took 15th at the NCAA Regional in Albuquerque after a 12th place showing at the Aggie Invitational for his previous top showing.
Garrett Martin finished 20th overall after shooting 5-over in the tournament with a final round at 2-over. Martin shot 77-70-74 – 221 during the second event of the season. Ludvig Aberg was at even-par after the competition of his final round on Wednesday and finished the tournament at 7-over, while Kyle Hogan shot 8-over for the week. Aberg was 26th overall in the field with a scorecard of 75-76-72 – 223 and Hogan claimed 28th with a 78-76-70 – 224. Calum Scott finished the tournament at 23-over.
Skogen recorded 16 birdies and 30 pars during his impressive tournament, while Martin had 12 birdies during the week.
Texas Tech will return to competition at the Blessings Collegiate from Oct. 4-6 in Fayetteville, Arkansas before finishing the fall portion of the 2021-22 season at the Big 12 Match Play Tournament at Houston Oaks in Hockley, Texas. The Red Raiders won the 2019 Big 12 Match Play Tournament.
