Obanor earns Big 12 Newcomer of the Week

LAWRENCE, Kansas – Texas Tech forward Kevin Obanor has been named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week after averaging 16.0 points and 6.0 rebounds in a pair of wins over Iowa State and West Virginia last. Kansas' Ochai Agbaji and K-State's Nijel Pack shared Big 12 Men's Basketball Player of the Week.
Obanor is the first Red Raider to earn a weekly conference honor this season. He started the week by going for 15 points and eight rebounds in the 72-60 win over then-No. 15 Iowa State last Tuesday before scoring 18 points and four rebounds in a 78-65 victory over West Virginia on Saturday. Obanor's 18 points against the Mountaineers are the most he's scored in a Big 12 game this season and came with him going 6 of 12 from the field and 6-for-6 at the free-throw line.
Obanor is in his first season at Texas Tech after playing his first three seasons at Oral Roberts. A Houston, Texas native with 30 career double-doubles, he is averaging 11.3 points and 5.0 rebounds through seven Big 12 games and is at 9.9 points and 4.9 rebounds for the season. Obanor comes into Monday's game at Kansas having scored 1,495 points and with 777 rebounds through 105 games in his collegiate career.
Pack averaged 25.5 points on 57.6 percent shooting, including 58.8 percent from 3-point range, in splitting games at No. 23/22 Texas and at home against No. 7/7 Kansas. In Kansas' two come-from-behind road wins, Agbaji averaged 19.5 points and 6.0 rebounds.
