Red Raiders have been represented in consecutive weeks
LUBBOCK, Texas – Senior jumps specialist Monae' Nichols was named the Big 12 Athlete of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday afternoon.
Nichols claimed first in the long jump last weekend in the Red Raider Open as she made her season debut. The first-place mark of 6.66m (21'-10.25") was established on her second attempt.
That jump currently leads the NCAA and Nichols is the only Big 12 jumper represented in the NCAA's top 10 list this season so far in the long jump. When it comes to the Tech record book, the leap now sits fourth all-time. The Florida native also holds the No. 2 mark all-time at 6.75m (21'-6.75").
The weekly award was shared with Baylor's Ackera Nugent and Texas' Julien Alfred.
