McCullar named to Naismith Defensive Player of the Year 2022 Watch List

LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech guard Kevin McCullar has been selected as one of 15 players throughout the country to the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year 2022 Watch List.
McCullar has been a staple of the Red Raider defense for three seasons and is currently helping Tech limit opponents to only 38.2 percent shooting which ranks first in the Big 12 and 15th nationally. A junior from San Antonio, he is currently averaging 11.0 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.6 steals per game.
An All-Big 12 honorable mention selection last season, he now has four games this season with three or more steals and has 94 steals through 65 career games.
McCullar is joined on the list by two other players from the Big 12 in Tyrese Hunter (Iowa State) and Baylor's Jonathan Tchamwa Tchatchoua. The list also includes Walker Kessler (Auburn), Jacob Gilyard (Richmond), Oscar Tshiebwe (Kentucky), Chet Holmgren (Gonzaga), Jamarion Sharp (Western Kentucky), Christian Koloko (Arizona), Mark Williams (Duke), Tari Eason (LSU), Kennedy Chandler (Tennessee), Posh Alexander (St. John's), Trayce Jackson-Davis (Indiana) and Nathan Mensah (San Diego State).
