The Red Raiders are back Saturday morning beginning with the multis at 10 a.m.

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech track and field program concluded day one of the Tech Open & Multis Friday evening, highlighted by a pair of first place finishes in the 60m dash.

In the women's 60m dash, newcomer Rosemary Chukwuma made her Red Raider debut claiming first with a time of 7.34 as Virginia Kerley finished right behind her at 7.36. In the semifinals, Kerley registered a new PR with a mark of 7.33. That time along with Kiah Dubarry-Gay, who clocked in her 7.33 time in the semifinals, sits tied for fourth all-time while Chukwuma moves into fourth all-time.

In the men's 60m, Jacolby Shelton took home first with a PR mark of 6.58 as he improved each time starting from the prelims. His time will go down as 6.60 due to altitude conversion, but that still puts the Dawson High School product tied for fifth in the nation. Going into the finals, Shelton went in with the fastest qualifying time at 6.62.

The women's weight throw saw Seasons Usual finish second with a toss of 21.47m (70'5.25"). It's only the second time in her career that Usual has reached the 70-foot mark – 21.59m (70'10') 2021 Big 12 Indoors where she placed first. In the B section final, Konner Wood walked away in first, recording a new PR at 18.59m (61'-0").

Other notables included Olivia Cade reaching a new PR mark in the pole vault at 3.82m (12'-6.25") as Auburn All-American transfer Malik Metivier made his long-awaited Red Raider debut running the 400 of the DMR as the team of Paul Sherrill, Alfred Chowanza and Own Likins placed first with a time of 9:59.90.

In the women's 400m, another newcomer in Aneesa Scott finished fourth overall in her Tech debut crossing the line at 54.37. Scott's last 400 race was back in February of 2020 – 54.38 at the C-USA Indoor Championships.

Freshman and Sweden native Oskar Edlund saw competition for the first time in 2022, running in the 600m in which he placed second in his heat, as it would remain second overall (1:17.55).
