Fresh off a second-place finish at Colonial, the Red Raiders were ranked No. 1 in the country
LUBBOCK, Texas – For the first time since the 2019-20 season, the Texas Tech men's golf program has been tabbed as the No. 1 team in the country in a golf poll, as the Red Raiders were selected as the top team in GolfStat's poll that came out Wednesday.
Led by the top-ranked player in the World Amateur Rankings, Ludvig Aberg, the Red Raiders have recorded three consecutive top-three finishes including a team victory at the Inverness Intercollegiate two weeks ago.
Playing in one of the top fields in all of college golf last week, Tech recorded a second-place finish at the Ben Hogan Intercollegiate. The event featured (at the time) six teams ranked inside the top-10 of the Golfweek rankings and five of the top six.
The Red Raiders kicked off the season at another top event, when they played in the Frederica Cup hosted by preseason No. 1 Vanderbilt. Led by strong performances from Aberg and sophomore Calum Scott, the Red Raiders finished third in that event.
The dynamic duo of Scott and Aberg are both ranked inside the top-10 of first GolfStat player rankings that were also released Tuesday. Fresh off three top-10 finishes and a pair of top-five finishes at the first three events, Scott finds himself ranked sixth, while Aberg checks in at No. 8.
Tech is the only school in the country with two golfers ranked inside the top-eight and is one of two schools (Illinois) to have a pair of golfers ranked inside the top 10.
The Red Raiders return to action next week for the Big 12 Match Play event. The three-day event begins on Monday (Oct. 17) and runs through Wednesday (Oct. 19).
