Sayfetdinova earns ranked victory; Red Raiders total 10 wins on the day

WACO, Texas – The Texas Tech Red Raiders women's tennis team began day one of the Baylor Invitational on Friday and collected 10 total wins in both singles and doubles, while only dropping two sets in those 10 victories.
In singles, sophomore Avelina Sayfetdinova earned her second-consecutive ranked victory, this time defeating No. 59 Marlee Zein (Texas), 6-4, 3-6, 6-4.
Freshman Yekaterina Dmitrichenko and junior Camryn Stepp also beat their Longhorn opponents in singles. Dmitrichenko took on Grace Thomas and won in straight-sets, 6-4, 6-3, while Stepp only dropped one game against Gabby Cusano, 6-1, 6-0.
Junior Metka Komac posted a win against Liubov Kostenko of Baylor, 7-5, 6-4, and sophomore Cristina Tiglea defeated Baylor's Paula Baranano, 7-6, 4-6, 7-5.
In doubles, Komac and Sayfetdinova paired together and tallied two wins. They would only allow their opponents to win two games after defeating both Vivian Ovrootsky and Zein (Texas) as well as Brooke Thompson and Liubov Kostenko (Baylor) by scores of 6-1.
Olivia Peet and Tiglea also added two more doubles wins on the afternoon. They first overtook the Texas duo of Simran Kortikere/Cusano, 6-2, then beat the Rice tandem of Federica Trevisan and Saara Orav, 6-3. Finally, Dmitrichenko and Stepp paired together to defeat the Texas pair of Thomas and Susanna Brass, 6-1.
The Red Raiders continue play at the tournament tomorrow morning at 9 a.m.
