Aberg wins The Prestige championship

LA QUINTA, California – Texas Tech junior Ludvig Aberg won The Prestige individual championship for the second straight year by shooting 3-under-par at the Greg Norman Course at PGA WEST. The No. 7-ranked Red Raiders finished fourth in the 24-team tournament.
Aberg closed out his third collegiate win by carding a 1-under, 70 in the final round on Wednesday including going 3-under in his final seven holes of the tournament. Oregon State's Carson Barry finished second at 1-under in a 120-player tournament that saw only Aberg and Barry finish under-par. Aberg finished the tournament with a 71-69-70 – 210 scorecard for the championship.
Tech completed 54-hole event at 33-over-par, while No. 18 Vanderbilt won the tournament at 16-over. The Red Raider had the lead going into the final round but saw Vanderbilt shoot a 14-under team total in the final round while TTU shot 8-over on Wednesday in the last round.
Calum Scott finished 33rd overall at 11-over after posting 78-75-71 – 224, while Kyle Hogan shot 14-over (76-74-77) to place 53rd. Baard Skogen completed the event at 15-over (74-79-75) and Garrett Martin was at 17-over after his 54 holes. Skogen, who came into the event ranked No. 8 individually after a runner-up finish at the Amer Ari, was 59th in the 120-play event.
A Sweden native who is at No. 3 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking, Aberg earned co-champion honors last season at The Prestige and the Thunderbird Intercollegiate before securing his first outright title this week in the second tournament of the spring tournament. Â Aberg tied for the tournament lead with 13 birdies in 54 holes during the three-day stay in California, including four in his final round. His final round of 1-under was at 2-over after two bogeys on 10 and 11 before turning it on with birdies on 13, 14 and 17 to secure the win.
Aberg's win is the 31st individual title under head coach Greg Sands. A Ben Hogan Award Watch List selection this season after earning All-America honors last year as a sophomore, Aberg has won the past three individual titles for the program.
Tech will continue competition at the Cabo Collegiate on Sunday in Los Cabos, Mexico in a three-day event which will have the championship round on Tuesday at The Ocean Course.
