Fritz tabbed Big 12 Co-Pitcher of the Week

Kendall Fritz splits the Big 12 Pitcher of the Week honor with Oklahoma State’s Miranda Elish.
IRVING, Texas – Texas Tech junior pitcher Kendall Fritz was named Big 12 Co-Pitcher of the Week the conference announced Tuesday. The award comes after Fritz tossed the fourth perfect game in program history Saturday against Texas A&M- Corpus Christi.
This marks the first Big 12 honor of Fritz's career and the first of the season for the Red Raiders.
The Frisco, Texas native made two starts and three total appearances in the circle, going 3-0 on the weekend with a 0.00 ERA. Fritz helped the Red Raiders pick up the win over Tulsa on Saturday, entering the game in the top of the seventh with the score tied at five, she did not allow a run to score, and Riley Ehlen walked it off in the bottom of the seventh to credit Fritz with the win.
The next game, Fritz reached perfection for the first time in her collegiate career. The transfer from Nevada retired all 15 batters she faced, three by strikeout, three on the ground and nine in the air. The Red Raiders run-ruled Texas A&M- Corpus Christi 9-0 in five innings. Fritz threw just 58 pitches in the contest.
Fritz picked up her fourth solo shutout of the season Sunday against Tulsa, going the distance for the Red Raiders allowing just four hits and one walk. Despite failing to strike out a batter, Fritz threw 76 pitches, averaging just 10.9 pitches per inning.
Fritz finished the weekend with 13.0 innings pitched allowing just six hits and one walk, limiting batters to a .136 hitting clip while averaging 11.6 pitches per inning.
On the season, Fritz leads the Big 12 in innings pitched (64.0), games started (13), shutouts (4), complete games (7) and is tied for the lead in wins (8). She ranks sixth in ERA (2.08) and ninth in opposing batting average (.201). The junior has walked just 13 of the 259 batters she has faced this season for an average of 1.42 walks per seven innings.

The Red Raiders will travel to Stephenville, Texas Wednesday for a midweek matchup with Tarleton State at 4:00 p.m. at the Tarleton State Softball Complex.
