Recap: Tech falls to OSU in five
March 26, 2022 | Softball
The Red Raiders were run-ruled for the third time this season, 9-1 by No. 7 Oklahoma State.
The Red Raiders gave up nine runs on nine hits and two errors to drop to 0-2 in conference play. Four different Cowgirls homered in the game, accounting for seven of the nine runs.
Oklahoma State opened the scoring early, putting up a run before the Red Raiders could record an out. Brianna Evans led off the inning with a single and stole second to get into scoring position for Kiley Naomi, who knocked a base hit up the middle to bring home the first run.
Alanna Barraza evened the game at one with her first home run of the season in the top of the second. Barraza took a 2-1 pitch to left center off Miranda Elish to tie things up.
Elish responded with a home run of her own to give the Cowgirls the lead back in the bottom half of the inning. Peyton Blythe almost came up with the out on the play but collided with the wall as the ball bounced over to make it 2-1.
A two-run home run from Cheyenne Factor increased the Oklahoma State lead to 4-1 in the bottom of the third. The second home run of the game ended Erna Carlin's day in the circle after two and one-third innings. Maddie Kuehl entered in relief of Carlin and worked out of the inning forcing a 6-4-3 double play to end the third.
Oklahoma State scored five in the fifth to end the game in a run rule, 9-1. The Cowgirls started the inning with a home run from Carwile. Three more runs scored to make it 8-1 as Sydney Pennington homered to left field off Olivia Rains, who entered in relief of Kuehl. Defensive miscues cost the Red Raiders as an error and a couple of walks loaded the bases and another error allowed the winning run to score to end the game.
The Red Raiders used five pitchers in the ballgame, using four pitchers in the fifth inning of the game.
