Tech ranked inside Top 5 in first outdoor rankings

The Red Raiders return home this Friday and Saturday
NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Texas Tech track and field program came in ranked in the Top 5 as the women's side received its highest outdoor ranking at No. 2 in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) poll released Monday afternoon.
The men's side was slotted No. 5 in the first outdoor season rankings. Tech is one of three teams in the nation that has both its men's and women's teams ranked inside the Top 5.
The Red Raiders competed in the Texas Relays this past weekend which saw two school records go down. The 4x100 team of Virginia Kerley, Kiah Dubarry-Gay, Demisha Roswell and Rosemary Chukwuma etched a new time of 43.11 – previous mark was 43.53 set in 2012. In the long jump, Monae' Nichols took down Ruth Usoro's 2021 record of 6.76m (22-2.25) and leaped 6.80m (22-3.75).
Other notable finishes included Malik Metivier winning the 400 hurdles title, Seasons Usual taking the discus crown, Kayli Johnson walking away with the shot put trophy, Courtney Lindsey winning the 200 invitational race and Chris Welch claiming the triple jump.
