Ehlen earns Big 12 Player of the Week

Riley Ehlen picks up the first Big 12 Weekly Award of her career.
IRVING, Texas – Texas Tech junior Riley Ehlen was named Big 12 Player of the Week for the first time in her career the conference announced Tuesday.
The honor marks the second Big 12 Weekly honor earned by the Red Raiders this season; Kendall Fritz was named Co-Pitcher of the Week back on March 15 after tossing the fourth perfect game in program history.
Ehlen was a huge spark for the Texas Tech offense which put up 29 runs in three games against Iowa State, winning two of three games to take the series. The junior from Brentwood, California contributed to eight of the 29 runs scored, recording five RBI and three runs on the weekend.
The Loyola Marymount transfer hit .625 (5-for-8) on the weekend. She was an impressive 4-for-7 (.571) with runners in scoring position and a perfect 2-for-2 with the bases loaded. Ehlen was clutch all weekend, going 3-for-4 with two outs, recording three two-out RBI. She posted a .727 on base percentage with her five hits and three walks.
In game one of the series Ehlen started the scoring for the Red Raiders with an RBI single to left field and later provided the RBI single that would bring Tech within a run of the Cyclones. In the Red Raiders 11-1 game two win she singled with the bases loaded to bring in a run as the Red Raiders scored six in the first inning. In the series finale Ehlen registered a bases-loaded two RBI single as part of a nine run second inning.
Ehlen has started 22 games as the designated player this season. The Red Raiders are 14-8 in those games as she has recorded a .290 batting average with 20 hits, 13 runs and 16 RBI on the season. Earlier this season Ehlen provided the walk-off winner against Tulsa, hitting a three-run home run to defeat the Golden Hurricane 8-5.
