LUBBOCK, Texas – No. 23 Texas Tech dropped one spot into seventh place Saturday at the Big 12 Championships as the Red Raiders combined for a 24-over-par 308 second round at The Clubs at Houston Oaks.
The Red Raiders, who are now 36-over for the tournament, were 12 strokes higher than their opening round Friday, falling back one spot behind Oklahoma in sixth place and eight from TCU in fifth. Texas overtook the overall team lead with a 3-over second round that pushed the Longhorns to 10-over for the tournament, nine strokes ahead of second place Oklahoma State.
Texas Tech will enter Sunday's third and final round with two of its individuals vying for top-10 finishes as senior Amy Taylor and freshman Chiara Horder both closed the second round in a tie for 10th place at 6-over for the tournament. Horder previously fired an even-par round to start the three-day tournament Friday.
Taylor matched Texas Tech's low round of the day as she and junior Anna Dong both signed for 4-over 75 cards. Dong moved into a tie for 20th place individually as she is 8-over for the tournament. Sophomore Gala Dumez and freshman Chelsea Romas rounded out the Tech lineup with 10-over and 14-over rounds, respectively.
Texas Tech will be in the early group Sunday as the Red Raiders will tee off at 8 a.m. alongside Kansas and Kansas State. The Jayhawks are two strokes back of the Red Raiders in eighth place, while Kansas State is in ninth at 52-over for the tournament.
The Big 12 Championships are the final tournament for the Red Raiders prior to hearing their NCAA Regional fate, which will be announced at 3 p.m. next Wednesday live on Golf Channel.
