Red Raiders land 10 on Academic All-Big 12 Softball Team

All 10 honorees were First Team selections.
IRVING, Texas – Ten Texas Tech softball student-athletes were named to the 2022 Academic All-Big 12 Softball Team the conference announced Wednesday morning.
All 10 student-athletes earned First Team honors, marking those with a 3.20 GPA or better who have participated in 20 percent of scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence while senior student-athletes who have two years of participation and meet all criteria except participation are eligible.
Ellie Bailey, Alanna Barraza, Peyton Blythe, Kennedy Crites, Jacee Hamlin, Payton Jackson, Riley Love, Abbie Orrick, Arriana Villa and Maddie Westmoreland each picked up the honor.
Bailey, Crites, Hamlin, Jackson, Love, Orrick and Villa each earn Academic All-Big 12 honors for the first time in their careers. Sophomores Crites, Hamlin, Love, Orrick and Villa were each members of the Academic All-Big 12 Rookie Team a season ago.
Barraza and Westmoreland each earn the honor for the second time in their careers. Westmoreland was a Dr. Gerald Lage Academic Achievement Award winner in 2020 and an Academic All-Big Ten honoree while at Indiana.
Blythe earns the third Academic All-Big 12 First Team honor of her career; she was also named to the Academic All-Big 12 Rookie team in 2019.
The Red Raiders 10 First Team selections were the third most of any Big 12 team trailing just Iowa State (11) and Oklahoma State (12).
