July 22, 2022 | Football
NEW YORK – Texas Tech junior transfer tight end Baylor Cupp was named to the 2022 John Mackey Award preseason watch list on Friday. The annual award is given to the most outstanding collegiate tight end, the award recipient is selected by a vote of the John Mackey Award selection committee.
Â
Cupp joined the Red Raiders this summer from Texas A&M where he appeared in 10 games one season ago. In his third season as an Aggie, Cupp made his collegiate debut in the third game of this past season after injuries held him out over his first two seasons.Â
Â
Cupp was the No. 1 tight end recruit in the country for the 2019 class by 247Sports and the No. 2 prospect by Rivals upon signing out of high school. He was ranked 16th among recruits nationally and second among those in the state of Texas by 247Sports that year.
Â
The last Red Raider to be recognized by the organization was Jace Amaro, named to the 2013 Mackey Award semifinalist list after initially not being placed on the preseason watch list. Amaro was the first Red Raider in school history to be named a semifinalist for the Mackey Award.
